I am honored to be exhibiting in this rich multi-faceted exploration of grief. For the show, I created a series of contact grids about my mother, Linda Douglas, née Henny Haar, a Holocaust survivor who lost her father to Auschwitz and managed to hide in Berlin with her mother through the allied bombing and liberation. She died in late 2022.
As I assembled her possessions, I uncovered her original poems and reflections of her traumas. Building visual narratives of her life awakened awareness of how her pain and sorrows were imbedded in me–previously unnamed feelings of sadness and alienation have risen to light.
