Late summer greetings with a brief newsletter to inform you of 2 opportunities to see new work this week.

St. Michael’s College will host an opening reception for the Art & Design Faculty Exhibition (click to link) at the McCarthy Art Gallery (click to link) on Thursday September 10, 6-7pm. I will have 2 Holga Quads (click to link) on display, and the show will run through September 26.

15x15-inch Archival Pigment Print, 2026

Holga Quads are created by scanning analog contact sheets of rolls of black + white film shot with a medium format plastic camera and cropping the frames into groups of 4.

For the 34th Annual Art Hop (click to link) in Burlington’s South End, I’ll have 2 new pieces in the BCA Studios (click to link) at 405 Pine Street. The group exhibition will be open on Friday, September 11, from 5-8pm, and the following Saturday morning.

My contribution to the show is 2 Contact Grids of objects found at 63 Basin Street (click to link) in Bristol, Vermont, where I spent a year clearing the property before I broke ground on a home last year. After the festivities of the weekend Art Hop fade, the exhibition will continue through October 9.

This is the first time that I am showing contact grids from the growing series of images I am creating about the items I am still finding in the soil around my house and yard.

Here’s are two glimpses of my house in flux. Although I moved in on June 1, it was only a couple of weeks ago that the water was hooked up on the main floor. Until then, I was taking daily walks to the river to bath and using the utility sink in the basement as my water source for cooking and cleaning. I am currently building the deck that will wrap around from tall south wall to the back door on the east wall There is plenty of interior finish work to do, but my little home is beginning to feel realized.

I just trimmed the posts on the front porch after putting the decking and ceiling in; building and trimming stairs is next. It been delightful to see the naturally stained spruce siding slowly covering the green wall sheathing.

My kitchen is functional, now that the soapstone counter and sink are installed, with the cabinets that I assembled over the summer. I will put together a slideshow of my house construction project, from the beginning to where it will be in a month or so to give you a fuller view of the spaces inside and out.

IN THE VIEWFINDER

I got in the darkroom last week and processed a few rolls of film that had accumulated. It felt great to get my hands wet after a couple months. I’m working on several photo projects, for which I’ll provide updates next time.
